UPDATE:11/14/09
Turns out it is a kidney stone causing all discomfort.
This morning’s exercise was great but engulfed with pain and self-motivation to finish. I guess you can’t have one without the other. Or can you?
It’s not what you are thinking. The pain that I am experiencing is not a direct result of the exercise. It actually has nothing in association with. A few days ago I noticed some tenderness in the kidney region of my back and radiates towards the front lower right quadrant of my stomach. Appendix? Kidney Stones? Having had stones in the past, I thought I was passing one. The thing is, I have completely changed my diet including my liquid intake. This change was done roughly 6 months ago and at this point I have several cups of Joe throughout the day and around a gallon to a gallon and a half of water. The stone theory is out and I’m left with just the pain. Of course it could be a number of things but the one that sticks out is a previous injury. That’s prompts the domino effect of thoughts and I realize that a few days ago I did something to re-injure myself. Long story short; I was standing on a platform and reached down to pull up a 100-115 lb machine up on to it. Problem is that the top of the machine was sitting about a foot lower than the platform. If you ever have to do this…don’t! I have had a strained abdominal wall in the past and think I strained it again. It’s pretty much waiting for me to lift the next heavy thing for it to become a full on hernia. Regardless, I decided to get up and run this morning. I pushed through the discomfort and actually made progress. I ran a bit further and in less time than last week’s run. I’m excited to see that I am making some progress however I am puzzled and frankly concerned by the pain. Even though it’s not crippling, it is dull, persistant, and matches the similar pain in my right ankle that was acquired during my run. I stepped into a rodent hole covered by high grass and leaves. OK, this is definitely a rough start towards the half marathon. Check out the stats on this run.

Faster and farther, I’d call that progress. It’s tough when you are running through pain of an unknown source. My personal rule is run through it, unless you are doing further damage. The good times when the Endorphins have kicked in and it feels like you are riding while your body works like an engine under you makes the bad days worthwhile.
You have that indominatable spirit that makes you a winner in whatever you choose, Maiker.
